Scholarship Information

Prospective Freshmen: Your Application for Admission serves as your application for scholarships. There is no separate scholarship application.  CSM scholarships recognize exceptional academic achievement. All prospective freshmen who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and are admitted by March 1, 2008 will be considered.  The E-Days scholarship is administered by Student Activities and will require a separate application and essay (see below).

Grades and test scores used for the admissions decision will be used for scholarship consideration; changes in test scores will not warrant re-evaluation of a previously awarded scholarship.

Most scholarships require a student to pass a minimum of 24 credits each academic year (Fall plus Spring semesters) with a 2.500 or higher cumulative GPA. However, some, such as named (donated), athletic, or ROTC scholarships may have other requirements. If a student fails to meet the guidelines, scholarship eligibility will be lost. However, this may be appealed based on mitigating circumstances.

CSM does not participate in the WUE undergraduate tuition exchange.

Prospective Transfer Students: Your CSM academic record will be evaluated after the completion of two semesters of full-time enrollment.  CSM scholarships recognize exceptional academic achievement and participation. All transfer students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents will be considered upon completion of the above listed requirement.

Scholarship Categories

CSM Academic Scholarships include CSM President's Scholarship and named scholarships provided by donors to the school. Recipients are selected based on their high school records: grade point average, class rank, and SAT or ACT scores. Students are reviewed individually for scholarships.

Athletic scholarships are based on athletic ability. Contact the Athletics Department at (303) 273-3206 for further information on application procedures.

ROTC scholarships are offered for both Army and Air Force participants. Contact the Military Science Department at (303) 273-3380 for application information.

Engineers'-Days (E-Days) scholarships are for Colorado residents. Information is mailed to high school counselors and accepted students in January. For more information regarding the E-Days Scholarship, please contact the Student Activities Office.

A CSM Student Government committee selects recipients based on high school credentials, a competitive essay, and other information. The E-Day's scholarship provides full resident-tuition for four years (eight semesters). Accepted students who are Colorado residents graduating from a Colorado high school may complete the application.  For more information, contact Student Activities at 303.273.3234.

Adjustments to Scholarships

The CSM policy is that students may receive scholarships from all sources up to a maximum of tuition and regular fees. If a student receives a scholarship from a private source, such as a community organization, and the total of all scholarships exceeds tuition and fees, adjustments to the CSM scholarships or grants may be made. In addition, if a student subsequently becomes eligible for another CSM scholarship, e.g. is considered for an athletic scholarship in addition to a President's award, an adjustment may be made.

Outside Scholarships

Per federal regulation, students who are awarded outside, private or community scholarships must notify the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. You may notify the Financial Aid Office of your outside resource(s) by completing the following form. We can follow-up with the donor and be sure they have all the information they need to get the scholarship funds to us as soon as possible.

We are required to treat outside scholarships as an additional resource.

If you have received a need-based grant as part of your financial aid award, it may be reduced by your outside scholarship. Student loans and/or work study may also be reduced.

The Financial Aid Office has an Outside Scholarship Coordinator who communicates with your donor to ensure payment is received. The coordinator also updates the Student Resources Trailhead tab with the latest scholarship opportunities on a monthly basis. In addition, you can find information and links to scholarship search sites on the Outside Scholarship page.

Disbursement of Funds

Privately funded scholarships are processed for disbursement to the student’s account once donors send the check to the Financial Aid Office. Funds will be credited at the rate of one-half the yearly amount per semester unless otherwise designated by the donor. If other arrangements are necessary, the student or donor needs to contact the Financial Aid Office.
